About Diamonds

Diamonds have always been one of the most admired jewels in the history. People have assigned their wearers attributes such as courage, strength and fearlessness but also purity, integrity and ability to love eternally. In contemporary culture diamonds, popularised on the big screen and associated with icons like Marilyn Monroe or Elisabeth Taylor, have become a symbol of wealth, glamour, elegance and of course a perfect way to say “You are the one” to the love of your life.

Although most people associate diamonds with colourless, sparkling gems they can be found in virtually all colours. Those, which have prominent coloured tint are truly rare and are called fancy diamonds, including strongly yellow ones named Canary Diamonds. A diamond in order to be truly beautiful it needs to have ideal proportions to exhibit the proper amount of brilliance (scintillation) and fire (light dispersion into colours of the rainbow), which ensures it will sparkle beautifully and dazzle your eye.

Natural diamonds are formed in extremely rough conditions – under very high pressure and high temperature – at depths reaching even 190 km under the Earth surface, over the period of 1 up to 3.3 billion years. They are one of the simplest gemstones – plain crystallized carbon, being at the same time the hardest known substance. What is particularly unique about diamonds is that no two of them can ever be identical. Every natural diamond is one of a kind, which makes diamond jewellery pieces that more special.

Over time, diamond stone has become an essential component of every engagement ring. This tradition, however, originates from ancient history - the ritual of giving rings to pledge one’s love and seal a marriage has been first recorded in the 2nd century B.C.E. by the Roman playwright Plautus. Since then, people have seen a diamond ring as a perfect way to express their deepest feelings and to promise their eternal love.

Engagement ring is usually the first and the most important diamond to buy. However, after wards, it is often followed by other, just as beautiful, diamond purchases. With time, many customers decide to upgrade their ring, sometimes they need a replacement in case of unfortunate damage or loss of their diamond, however, most go for additional jewellery pieces, such as diamond earrings, pendants or bracelets, which make perfect gifts for any special occasion.

Diamonds are also commonly known as birthstones for those celebrating their birthdays in April, but also are a great commemoration of any wedding anniversary – especially 10th and 60th, which is even called a ‘Diamond Jubilee’.
